Wildlife And Animals in Mahale Mountains National Park

The chimpanzees of the Mahale Mountains are the primary draw. About sixty of the park’s nearly eight hundred chimpanzees are highly used to human interaction. You’ll be led by your guide into the woods on foot.

In addition to chimpanzees, eight other species of primate have been documented, with at least five of these being sighted during a typical tourist trip. There are several species of monkeys, including the vervet monkey, red colobus, blue monkey, and vervet baboon. Nighttime sounds are more likely to be heard than seen when it comes to the smaller and larger galago. Elephants, lions, wild dogs, roan antelope, buffalo, and giraffe all live on the eastern slopes of Mahale Mountains National Park, but visitors rarely get to view them.

The Best for Wildlife Tours in Mahale Mountains National Park

Chimpanzee trekking is at its finest from May to October, during the dry season. Chimpanzees are more visible and simpler to locate now that they are clustered at the lake’s edge. The park is accessible year-round, but heavy downpours may make hiking more challenging.
