As one of just three nations in the world where mountain gorilla trekking is offered, Uganda is home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, which is less than 1004 individuals. There are two national parks in Uganda where one can go gorilla trekking. There are a total of eighteen habituated gorilla families; seventeen of these families may be seen in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, while one can be found in Mgahinga National Park.

Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

One of the most popular wildlife adventures in the world is trekking with gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Mountains. Responsible tourism has increased the population of mountain gorillas, making it one of the top destinations in the world.

The world’s largest primate, the mountain gorilla, is only found in three nations, one of which is Rwanda.

Rwenzori Trekking

Rwenzori: Mountains of the Moon, Uganda

In the Rwenzori’s, hikers can choose between high- and low-altitude routes. The low-altitude treks usually last two to four days and don’t go higher than four thousand meters. Treks to high altitudes, defined as those reaching peaks above 4,000 meters, often take four to twelve days to complete.

Visiting the Rwenzori’s on their own is possible, but many visitors want to combine their trip with a visit to Kibale National Park, Queens, or Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, all of which are located along the south-west circuit of Uganda.
Throughout the routes, people have built simple wooden huts that serve as their accommodations. Each house has bunk beds and its own toilet.

The Rwenzori Mountains are the site of Mount Stanley, which is home to Margherita Peak (5,109m), the highest point in Uganda. A minimum of seven days spent in the mountains is required to reach the summit of Margherita Peak.

Kilimanjaro Trekking

Climbing Africa’s highest mountain – Kilimanjaro (full experience)

Perhaps the most well-known high-altitude journey in the world is the ascent of Kilimanjaro. Going up is as easy as walking. No climbing expertise is necessary, and you won’t even need ropes.

Machame, Marangu, Rongai, Lemosho, Shira, The Northern Circuit, and Umbwe are the seven primary trekking routes of Kilimanjaro. Additionally, there is the Western Breach, a technically difficult and advanced path that should only be attempted by experienced hikers.

This is one of the Kilimanjaro climbing routes that not all companies provide. In order to descend Kilimanjaro, one must utilize the eighth path, Mweka. When deciding on a Kilimanjaro route, keep in mind these two points:

  • The length of the journey should be sufficient to allow for sufficient time to acclimate. Five-day journeys are very quick. A seven- or eight-day hike improves your chances of reaching the peak of Kilimanjaro, while a six-day journey, provided you are physically strong and have prior experience trekking at high altitudes, is a more economical option.
  • An option to climb high and sleep low should be included in the itinerary. Reiterating, this is a key component for numerous climbers who achieve success on Kilimanjaro.

Best Time to Visit for an Africa Adventure Safari

Generally speaking, the months of June through October are ideal for an adventure safari in Africa, but when you go will depend on your interests and goals for the trip. The months of May through September are ideal for spotting animals in Kruger National Park, especially the Big Five, because the weather is dry and the vegetation is less dense during this time. If seeing the Great Migration is something you’ve always wanted to do, the months of late June through August are prime viewing. We recommend visiting between June and October if you are prepared to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

We think that traveling to Africa is always a wonderful idea, but we also think that there is the perfect time for you to go. Find out with our assistance!
