10 Days Namibia Family Self-Drive Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Set Out From Windhoek | 1 Nights

After touching down in Windhoek, the charming capital of Namibia, grab your rental car and head off to the Okonjima Plains Camp for the evening. Unwind in the camp’s pool or lie on the wooden veranda; while you’re there, check out the Africat project to find out more about the local carnivores.

Days 2-5: Enjoy The Etosha National Park | 3 Nights

Location: Etosha, Namibia

Etosha National Park Self-Drive | Overlanding Namibia | Full-Time Travellers

Get some breakfast at Okonjima Plains Camp before hitting the road in your rental car to the Etosha National Park boundary Onguma Private Game Reserve. Enjoy a refreshing drink while sitting on the lodge’s game-viewing platform, which overlooks the much-frequented waterhole. Before you begin exploring this wildlife-rich area, check into Onguma Bush Camp. You won’t have to go far to see animals.

Spend the following two days exploring Etosha National Park on your own. This park is perfect for self-driving safaris since it is well-organized, has a wide variety of animals (including desert specialists and conventional savannah wildlife), and is well-known as a habitat for predators like black rhinos and elephants.

Day 5: Explore Dramatic Damaraland | 2 Nights

Location: Damaraland, Namibia

After breakfast, head to the rough Damaraland area to spend two nights at Doro Nawas Camp. At first look, the area appears to be barren, yet closer inspection reveals stunning natural beauty and unexpectedly abundant animals. Drink something refreshing from the bar or swim in the pool before taking in the sunset from the rooftop deck; as the sun goes down, look up at the stars for a breathtaking celestial show.

Day 6: See Ancient Rock Art At Twyfelfontein | 1 Nights

Location: Swakopmund, Namibia

Namibia – Twyfelfontein

Visit Twyfelfontein to witness the world’s biggest collection of prehistoric rock art in Africa, which includes ancient San (Bushman) rock engravings. In this untamed yet gratifying area, you can go game viewing along dry riverbeds and thorny thickets, and you can also keep an eye out for the elusive desert-adapted elephants and other animals.

Day 7: Explore The Historic Town Of Swakopmund | 2 Nights

Location: Sossusvlei, Namibia

You will depart from the charming German-colonial town of Swakopmund this morning for a trip to the Atlantic coast of Namibia and the Swakopmund Guesthouse. This holiday playground in Namibia is a great place to go quadbiking on the adjacent sand dunes, skydiving, sandboarding, and many more exciting adventure sports. The welcoming streets are also great for people watching and exploring the local art galleries, cafes, and coffee shops.

Day 8: Drive To The Namib Desert

Before you leave the shore, have breakfast in Swakopmund and maybe do something fun. As you make your way to Kulala Desert Lodge, your lodging in the midst of the immense Namib Desert, take in the lunar-like landscape of the Kuiseb Valley. Take a dip in the pool for some exercise or just kick back on the porch of your chalet and watch the sun go down over the desert.

Day 9: See The Towering Dunes At Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei Namibia – Desert Dunes of the Namib

Get an early start and go on a guided tour to Sossusvlei to see the world-famous red dunes. You may witness for yourself why these dunes are supposedly among the largest in the world—they reach heights of up to 300 meters—by stopping at Dune 45 and making your way to the peak. Afternoon hikes in the lodge’s private reserve can be arranged with your guide.

Day 10: End Your Adventure In Windhoek

After a champagne brunch and a hot-air balloon ride over the Namib Desert, your self-drive tour of Namibia comes to a close in Windhoek. After dropping off the rental car, head to the airport to catch your flight out.
