Day 1 – Arrival at Entebbe Airport & Hotel Relaxation

We felt Uganda’s tropical heat and Lake Victoria’s aroma when we arrived at Entebbe Airport. We drove past bustling towns and lush foliage on our way to Protea Hotel, anticipating our adventures.

The hotel welcomed us with spacious rooms, elegant décor, and a peaceful view of the grounds. We spent the afternoon at the pool with small snacks after settling in. A sunset stroll along the lake shore, where the tranquil waters reflected the blazing skyline, was a lovely introduction to Uganda.

Day 2 – Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park & Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

A picturesque drive to Uganda’s largest protected wilderness, Murchison Falls National Park, started the day. Expert rangers led us to rare white rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Seeing these prehistoric giants grazing semi-wild was humbling and a testament to Uganda’s conservation efforts.

We hiked to the top of Murchison Falls, where the Victoria Nile roars into the gorge below. We felt the mist on our faces, the river roared in our chests, and the savannahs were breathtaking. After checking into Pakuba Safari Lodge, we enjoyed a delightful evening on our terrace watching animals.

Day 3 – Murchison Falls: Game Drives & Victoria Nile Boat Cruise

We spent the day exploring Murchison Falls’ wide savannahs and riverine woods on morning and evening game drives. Elephants gently walked, buffalo herds wandered together, while lions lounged under acacia trees. Our 14 Days Uganda and Diani Beach Safari guide (Rodgers) made every sighting feel personal.

At lunchtime, we cruised the Victoria Nile, seeing hippos, crocodiles, herons, kingfishers, and fish eagles. The river gleamed in the midday sun, and the scenery was excellent for photos. This day embodied Uganda’s wilderness with its adrenaline and tranquilly.

Day 4 – Road Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

We crossed into the verdant Kibale Forest National Park from the wide savannahs of Murchison, where the primates of Africa live. The picturesque route wound its way through verdant hills, past tea plantations and vibrant towns. Birdsong and the wonderful scent of woodland plants welcomed us as we pulled up to Turaco Treetops Lodge, a welcome change from the open plains.

During the afternoon, we unwinded at the lodge, had a stroll around its elevated pathways, and looked for species such as hornbills and turacos. As a peaceful respite before our thrilling chimpanzee excursion the next day, the immersion in forest life was just what the doctor ordered.

Day 5 – Chimpanzee Tracking & Bigodi Swamp Walk

Chimpanzee tracking, everyone’s favourite activity, started our morning. As we made our way through the thick forest, we couldn’t help but be enchanted by the monkeys’ mischievous activities. They swung from tree to tree, making sounds that were familiar to us. Experiencing a 14-day luxury safari in Uganda and Diani was an incredible and moving way to learn about their intricate social systems.

Wetland birds and other small animals call Bigodi Swamp home, so we spent the afternoon exploring this sanctuary. We saw kingfishers of various colours, innumerable butterflies, and hammerkop birds as we walked along elevated wooden platforms. A serene, even contemplative atmosphere was produced by the swamp’s reflected waters and verdant foliage, showcasing the ecological richness of Uganda.

Day 6 – Queen Elizabeth National Park: Game Drives & Kazinga Channel Cruise

The expansiveness of the Ugandan savannahs was instantly apparent as we travelled to Queen Elizabeth National Park. During our morning wildlife drives, we had the opportunity to see buffalo, elephants, and lions munching on the plains. Our guide’s extensive knowledge of the park’s flora and fauna made every sighting that much more exciting.

On the Kazinga Channel boat trip, you could see marine life up close. African fish eagles and herons soared above the banks, which were inhabited by hippos and crocodiles. One of the highlights of our 14-day luxury safari through Uganda and Diani was the opportunity to explore both land and sea.

Day 7 – Queen Elizabeth National Park: Kasenyi Plains & Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions

It was a day filled with contrasts. Starting with a morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, we were able to witness herds of Uganda kob gracefully meandering through the grass and prides of lions relaxing under acacia trees. The expansive scenery conveyed an air of majesty and liberation that is difficult to put into words.

We left for the Ishasha area in the afternoon; it’s well-known for its pride of tree-climbing lions. It seemed odd to watch these majestic cats lounging carefree among fig trees. A very remarkable aspect that set this safari apart was the sighting, which was both unusual and breathtaking.

Day 8 – Ishasha Game Drives & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Rushaga Sector)

In Ishasha, we woke up early for yet another exciting morning in the hopes of seeing more of those elusive tree-climbing lions. As we made our way over the plains with our knowledgeable guide, the rising sun rolled across the savannah, casting lengthy shadows. Lions slouched in fig trees as elephants and Uganda kob sashamed across the horizon, captivating everyone who beheld them. We were welcomed like royalty in their realm by the distinctive Ishasha terrain, which consisted of broad grasslands interspersed with scattered trees, providing ideal circumstances for wildlife observation.

We set off on our picturesque trip towards the mountain gorilla-renowned Bwindi Impenetrable Forest at midday. As we meandered through banana plantations, tea gardens, and rolling hills, we caught glimpses of village life at every turn on our 14-day luxury safari in Uganda with a stop at Diani Beach. As soon as we arrived at Four Gorillas Lodge, we were captivated by the high platforms that overlooked the foggy woodlands. These platforms set the stage for an adventure we had been eagerly anticipating.

Day 9 – Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Lake Bunyonyi Relaxation

We started our day at first light, trekking into the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of our majestic mountain gorilla cousins. As we made our way through the thick underbrush, accompanied only by the distant cries of gorillas and the melodies of birds, our knowledgeable trackers led the way. We soon came onto a troop of mountain gorillas, complete with a dominant silverback, some playing young ones, and a mother and her young. We felt privileged to observe such personal moments in nature, and it was deeply affecting to see the family ties, expressions, and interactions among them.

We continued our trek to Lake Bunyonyi, a tranquil sanctuary with more than 20 islands and undulating hills, following this life-altering meeting. We enjoyed an afternoon of kayaking, boating, and just relaxing on the serene lake at Arcadia Lodges. The picturesque scene of the foggy hills reflected in the placid waterways made for the ideal backdrop for contemplation and relaxation.

Day 10 – Return to Entebbe & Botanical Gardens Exploration

As we made our way back to Entebbe, we pondered the meaningful experiences we had in the Ugandan countryside. We started our day at the Botanical Gardens, a peaceful haven filled with flora, fauna, and centuries-old trees. We admired the symphony of bird songs as we strolled along shady pathways amid vibrant flowers and verdant foliage.

During the afternoon, we unwinded at the hotel, taking in the serene views of the lake while reminiscing about our safari’s best moments. Just what we needed to set the stage for our next chapter—a visit to the beautiful beaches of Diani—a blend of action, luxury, and quiet reflection.

Day 11 – Mabamba Swamp Shoebill Tracking & Flight to Mombasa/Diani Beach

The day began with a thrilling canoe ride into the mysterious Mabamba Swamp, where the rare Shoebill makes its home. It was almost unbelievable to see this ancient bird glide softly through the reeds as it patiently stalked fish. The swamp’s hushed stillness, broken only by the distant chirps of birds, invited introspection and a closer relationship with nature.

We left the lush plains and woods of Uganda for the crystal-clear waters of Diani Beach on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast in the afternoon, and we touched down in Mombasa. Upon our arrival at Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa, we were greeted with friendly service and breathtaking views of the turquoise waters, creating an atmosphere of pure relaxation and opulence.

Days 12–13 – Relaxation at Diani Beach

We sunk into the opulent tranquilly of Diani Beach for two days. An beautiful setting was formed by the swaying palm trees, blue waters, and soft sands. We swam, snorkelled, and explored coral reefs in the mornings, and enjoyed spa treatments, seaside meals, and leisurely walks down the coast in the afternoons.

These two days, which combined action with sheer luxury, were the perfect capstone to our unforgettable safari vacation.

Day 14 – Departure

The last day of our trip began with a relaxing beach stroll before a shuttle to Mombasa Airport. We left Uganda with fond memories of its natural beauty, its unique animals, and the coastal leisure we had enjoyed in Kenya. It had been an adventure-filled, indulgent, culturally rich trip.
