A Complete Nyerere, Ruaha And Zanzibar Fly-in Itinerary
Days 1-2: Discover Nyerere National Park | 3 Nights
Your exhilarating Nyerere, Ruaha, Zanzibar fly-in expedition commences with your arrival at Dar Es Salaam Airport in Tanzania. Meet your representative, transfer to a domestic airport, and board a short-haul flight to Siwandu, your accommodation for the next three nights. Situated in the magnificent Nyerere National Park, this serves as an ideal foundation for exploring Tanzania’s most obscure yet untamed game reserve.
Utilise the forthcoming days to embark on game drives to observe the magnificent elephant herds and to explore the Rufiji River, the largest river in East Africa, which has the continent’s most substantial populations of crocodiles and hippos. Upon completing exhilarating river safaris and jungle walks, return to the camp for relaxation.
Siwandu is situated in an open palm grove along the shores of Lake Nzerakera, allowing you to relax on your veranda while observing the sunset over the picturesque scenery.
Days 3-4: Explore Ruaha National Park
Following breakfast, proceed to the bush airstrip for your flight to Ruaha National Park. A representative will greet you and escort you to Jongomero Camp.
Engage in game drives, traverse the river, and identify various bird species. Enjoy a delectable bush meal or picnic lunch while witnessing the splendid hippos cavorting in the river.
Relish the remainder of your spare time at the camp, unwinding in the natural rock pool. Your evenings are spent in cosy thatched tents, each featuring its own viewing terrace.
Days 5-7: Private Island Palm-Lined Beaches
The safari segment of your journey closes with a final early morning breakfast and transfer to the airstrip, followed by a private island beach experience.
Following a brief layover in Dar es Salaam, you will travel to the Songo Songo Island airfield via Mafia Island, which is a 45-minute flight. Upon arrival, you will board a tuk-tuk that will transport you to the jetty, from which you will embark on a sail to Fanjove Private Island.
This picturesque, environmentally sustainable haven is located on the Songo Songo Archipelago, adjacent to the mainland of Tanzania. The palm-fringed island measures merely 1 kilometre in length (0.62 miles) and 400 metres in width (1312 feet), offering a restricted capacity to guarantee a secluded experience.
Unlike the planned, adventure-laden days of safari, your time on Fanjove allows for a deceleration of pace, facilitating genuine rest and recuperation. Unwind on the beach with a book, intermittently immersing yourself in the glistening ocean; savour fresh cuisine and chilled beverages, take leisurely walks around the island, don a mask and snorkel to observe marine life, or embark on a kayak to navigate the coastline.
Day 8: Say Goodbye to Tanzania
Following two complete days in paradise, it is time to return home or go with your tour. Upon arrival at the island, you will return to the Songo Songo airstrip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam Airport, marking the conclusion of your Nyerere, Ruaha and Zanzibar adventure.
