A Complete Saruni Conservation And Community Experience

Day 1-3: Welcome to Kenya! Head to the Wild North First | 3 Nights

On arrival in Nairobi, meet your driver for your vehicle transfer to Wilson Airport. From here you will travel to Samburu Airstrip and transfer to Sera Community Conservancy’s Saruni Rhino, your first stop on this 10-day safari. Set between swaying palm trees on the banks of a dry riverbed, surrounded by approximately 340,000 hectares of semi-arid wildness, Saruni Rhino can make you feel swept back in time to a desert oasis on your voyage over the African plains. Truly remarkable adventures await at this one-of-a-kind retreat.

The land belongs to the community and has a long, rich past intertwined with the culture of its inhabitants. Besides the regular exciting daily game drives on offer, guests have the special option to experience the Singing Wells where local pastoralists invite their cattle to drink by singing songs identifiable only by their own herd. Guided by very adept rangers, guests can approach quite near to the rhinos on foot during the rhino tracking experience. The Reteti Elephant Orphanage is situated nearby. This excursion provides guests with an opportunity to understand the conservation initiative focused on rescuing orphaned elephants and ultimately reintegrating them into their natural habitat.

When not engaged in various adventures, the lodge provides ample opportunities for relaxation. Saruni Rhino epitomises an ideal blend of authenticity and luxury, whether one is enjoying a revitalising swim in the pool, relaxing in an open-fronted Banda as elephants pass by, or savouring a leisurely supper in the main lodge area, ensuring a profoundly satisfying experience.

Day 4-6: Discover the Secrets of Samburu | 3 Nights

Immediately, you go on a road transport to your subsequent destination, Saruni Samburu. Perched on a rocky promontory with expansive vistas of the rugged and hilly northern Kenya plains, Saruni Samburu is the sole lodge within the semi-arid tribal territories of the Kalama Conservancy, adjacent to Samburu National Reserve.

Samburu is renowned for its rich wildlife, particularly elephants and the uncommon species together known as the Samburu Five. These animals are adapted to the arid and hilly environment of the region, including Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and reticulated giraffe. Daily bush walks and game drives facilitate exploration of the area and the observation of these species and additional wildlife. Guided by properly trained Samburu warriors, enthusiastic to impart their passion for the land and culture to visitors.

Your experience at Saruni can be as tranquil or exhilarating as you like. Unwind at the lodge during the day’s heat, receive a revitalising massage in the Wellness Space, admire the vistas, enjoy a beverage of your preference, or take a refreshing plunge in the infinity pool while overlooking the Samburu plains below. Enjoy a picnic along the Ewaso Niro River, followed by a fire-lit bush dinner featuring Samburu dancers, and conclude the evening by the fire, gazing at a star-filled sky while sharing stories and memories from the day.

Day 7-9: Experience the Masai Mara | 3 Nights

It is time to go from Samburu and proceed to the airstrip for your flight to Mara North, with a stop in Nairobi. Your initial game drive commences with a vehicular transport from the airstrip to Saruni Mara. Situated in a conservancy adjacent to Masai Mara National Reserve, benefit from the autonomy of a private concession while maintaining direct access to the national park.

Saruni Mara serves as an exceptional foundation for exploring Kenya’s premier safari destination and principal conservation area, Masai Mara. Renowned for exceptional year-round wildlife observation, extensive seasonal migrations of wildebeest and zebra, the warm hospitality of Maasai inhabitants, and the unmissable experience of hot air balloon safaris gliding silently over the plains.

Allow the opulent yet inviting lodge to immerse you in its serenity and allure. In this remote wilderness, buffalo, antelope, and elephants may graze on the verdant slopes before the camp, allowing you to leisurely spend your afternoons in a comfortable location on the veranda, seeing the natural world as it unfolds.

Day 10: Bid a Fond Farewell to Kenya

Relish your final Kenyan sunrise and say goodbye to this remarkable land. With luggage prepared and spirits high, a brief flight brings you back to Nairobi, Wilson Airport. A driver will transport you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure or further travel.
