My Kenya Solo Safari Experience, Review & Recommendations
Solo adventurers will find Kenya to be the ideal destination. The conservancies in Laikipia county and the Maasai Mara National Reserve are where you’ll find the properties that we think are ideal for singles.
Every season brings a plethora of species to both regions! Although the world-famous Great Migration takes place in the Maasai Mara from July to October, any time of year is perfect for a visit owing to the incredible variety of animals that call the area home. Laikipia is a popular destination for Kabira Safaris due to its beautiful landscapes and abundance of wildlife.
When you book your stay in the Mara Conservancies, you get the best of both worlds: a tranquil setting perfect for walking safaris and exciting game drives in the bustling MMNR! For a full day of wildlife viewing, picnic lunch included, most visitors ride out into the Reserve, while half-day excursions are enjoyed on Conservancy drives. We highly recommend making the most of your time on safari!
Angama Mara is the first Mara Conservancies site mentioned. It is actually two camps in one, situated on a pair of rock kopjes high above the plains. As an example of how Angama caters to solo travellers, the first two rooms in a booking do not incur any additional charges, but the third and subsequent rooms are subject to 50% of the nightly rate. The fifteen suites in each camp make the most of the breathtaking scenery through floor-to-ceiling windows. What guests want to do is taken into consideration while planning activities. Your guides are more than willing to stick near to camp or take you all the way to the Tanzanian border, depending on your preference. In addition to walking safaris, hot air balloon tours offer an exciting perspective of the Mara’s fauna. Even more so, there are chances to soak up some culture on village trips. Mara Conservancies’ newest offering, Angama Mara, has been met with nothing but praise since its debut.
“As a woman travelling alone, I felt totally protected at all times because Kabira Safaris Africa organised everything and considered every convenience. I like their knowledge and familiarity with the lodges and areas. I had never been to Africa or the Masai Mara before, but I will most certainly be back. I’m excited to schedule my next safari with Izzy, and this time, I want to focus entirely on the safari possibilities rather than just the beach.”

Based in the Mara North Conservancy, Offbeat Mara and Kicheche Mara are two further estates in this region of Kenya that are worth seeing. Throughout the year, Offbeat waives all single room supplements for a single guest per group. During the migration months of July 15–October 31, Kicheche is offering special rates of $135 per person for single travellers. and one supplement waiver per group on a single tent at all other times. Kicheche has eight traditional tents, but Offbeat only has six. There are some excellent safari activities available at both sites. You can go on walks and game drives with Offbeat’s highly qualified native Maasai guides. You can specify how much time you would like to spend on safari at Kicheche, which is well known for its flexible approach. Offbeat also offers hot air balloon trips and picturesque flights. You can trek out to the property’s fly camp if you are staying for more than a few nights, and Kicheche can also arrange balloon safaris! Through visits to the nearby village, both camps offer chances to experience a little bit of local culture.
We discover Kicheche Laikipia, another Kicheche property, when we move to Laikipia. Similar to the Mara camp, Kicheche Laikipia offers a special deal for lone travellers from July 15 to October 31 of $135 per person. Outside of these dates, each group is eligible for a single supplement waiver on one tent. This camp has six tented rooms that are all very well furnished. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where the camp is located, is home to an incredible variety of species! Game walks, day and night game drives, and using the newest technology to track lions are among the activities. There are also opportunities for excursions to the nearby chimpanzee and white rhino sanctuaries. You may also enjoy riding, hiking, and canoeing!
Last but not least is Sosian Lodge, a prosperous cattle ranch located in Mount Kenya’s slopes. Here, lone travellers are not required to take any particular addition. The Lodge’s lawn is lined with two charming cottages that house a total of seven rooms. There are many herbivores and predators on the ranch! Both day and nighttime game drives are offered, and walking safaris let you to get up close and personal with insects, birds, and plants. While horse and camel safaris are a great opportunity to see the animals from a different angle, tracking lions and wild dogs is a very thrilling adventure. You can go to the Lodge’s fly camp, play around on the Ewaso Narok River for a while, visit the nearby town to see people dancing and building fires and take a tour of the ranch with Sean, the general manager. There is so much to do here!
In reality, this list of lodging options that are appropriate for lone travellers is but a sample of what is available. Just give us a call for additional details!
