7-Day Great Serengeti Migration Safari | August-October
The Great Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is the main attraction of this 7-day safari itinerary, which has been meticulously planned to maximise your chances of seeing this spectacular event. Since the bulk of the wildebeest migration typically occurs between August and October in the Lobo area (north of the central Serengeti National Park) and the Wagakuria area (remote northern Serengeti National Park), we have planned our itinerary to encompass both of these locations. This itinerary has been created so that you may maximise your time observing the wildlife and minimise unnecessary travel time. You will fly back to Arusha town from the Serengeti National Park. The renowned Ngorongoro Crater is also on the schedule.

A Detailed 7-Day Great Serengeti Migration Safari
Day 1 – Arrival – Arusha
Your senior safari guide will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transport you to your Arusha hotel for the night after your flight.
Located below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, Arusha enjoys a temperate environment. The city is home to 416,442 people and is the seat of the Arusha Region in northern Tanzania. The Arusha District also includes an additional 323,198 residents. Parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire, Kilimanjaro, and Arusha on Mount Meru are all within easy driving distance of the city.

Accommodation: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel
Day 2 – Arusha – Ngorongoro
Your 7-Day Great Serengeti Migration Safari journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area will begin after breakfast. We’ll head down 600 meters to the crater to see the animals there once you get there in time for lunch at the resort.
Ngorongoro National Park is home to a wide range of wildlife, including large herds of zebras, buffalo, eland, warthogs, hippos, and enormous African elephants, thanks to its year-round water supply and food sources. The abundance of predators in this beautiful national park is another major selling point. Visitors can often see cheetahs, lions, jackals, hyenas, and the notoriously secretive leopard—an animal that sometimes needs a keen eye to see. Another prominent feature of the crater that we will be visiting is Lake Magadi, a big but shallow alkaline lake located in the southwestern part. Flamingos, hippos, and other aquatic birds are common sights here.

Accommodation: Karatu Acacia Farm Lodge
Day 3 – Ngorongoro – Serengeti (Central Seronera)
The Serengeti National Park, in the very center of unspoiled Africa, has seemingly infinite grasslands that stretch into the horizon, so we’ll be leaving after breakfast to explore them. Moving north of the Seronera area (in the heart of Serengeti National Park), we’ll reach the Lobo area. Typically, the Lobo area is traversed by the wildebeest migration twice a year, once in late October or early November on the way to the southern Serengeti National Park and again in July or August on the way to the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya.
After a leisurely lunch, we’ll head to the Serengeti National Park for a thrilling afternoon game drive.
Inclusion Meal: B,L,D
Accommodation: Olkarien Eco Safari Camp
Day 4 – Serengeti (Seronera Area)
Go on a full-day game drive in the park after breakfast. Throughout the year, the region surrounding Lobo and the Grumeti River offers excellent resident game. Throughout the year, visitors can observe a variety of non-migratory creatures such as zebras, gazelles, elephants, leopards, and cheetahs. An often-overlooked area of the Serengeti Plains, the game watching is top-notch, allowing you to follow the action for extended stretches without seeing other cars. The riverbanks are home to magnificent riverine trees and a variety of birds, including fish eagles and kingfishers.

Accommodation: Olkarien Eco Safari Camp
Day 5 – Serengeti (Central ) – Northern Serengeti (Kogatende Area)
Our 7-Day Great Serengeti Migration Safari journey begins after breakfast as we make our way to the Wagakuria, the northernmost section of the Serengeti National Park. Between the Lobo and Wagakuria areas, we will go on a game drive. We often encounter giraffe, plain game, buffalo herds, and elephants as we travel north.
We will have lunch at the lodge upon our arrival, and then we will go on a game drive in the vicinity throughout the afternoon. Typically, the Wagakuria area witnesses the wildebeest migration between August and October, though this might vary based on rainfall conditions. The Mara River, which flows through Serengeti National Park in its northernmost reaches, presents the greatest challenge to the migration. It is truly awe-inspiring to see the wildebeests rush across the Mara River.

Accommodation: Acacia Migration Camp
Day 6 – Northern Serengeti (Kogatende)
Set out on a full day of game driving in the Wagakuria region after breakfast. There are a lot of resident animals in this part of the park—prides of lions can be as large as thirty—but from August through October, it becomes a wildlife paradise. A prominent feature is the Mara River, which the herds often use to travel north one day and south the next. Be advised that locating a crossing can be exceedingly challenging and occasionally dependent on chance. The herd doesn’t make up its mind about crossing the river until at least a few days have passed. Stunning kopjes, forests, riverine vegetation, and vast plains characterise this location, which is reminiscent of Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Accommodation: Acacia Migration Camp
Day 7 – Fly from Kogatende to Arusha airport + (Hot Lunch) + Transfer to JRO
We will have breakfast at the camp before setting off for Kogatende Airstrip, during which time we will stop for a wildlife drive. The recommended daily tip for the guide is $20 to $30.
Take a plane from the Kogatende airstrip to Arusha airport in about the middle of the morning. Our driver will be waiting for you at the Arusha airport, and you can board him to take you into town. Our African safari will come to a close after lunch when we reach our destination. Once your 7-Day Great Serengeti Migration Safari is over, we will transport you back to your accommodation.
