Tarangire Hot Air Balloon Safari Tanzania

Oh, Tarangire! The wildlife viewing here is wonderful, plenty of large mammals and incredible bird life.

A Tarangire hot air balloon safari offers a unique, ~1-hour aerial view of the park’s iconic baobab trees, swamps, and massive elephant herds, typically during sunrise. Flights generally operate from June to October, start before dawn (4:00 AM – 5:00 AM), and end with a champagne bush breakfast.

Restorative for the spirit, gliding peacefully over this scenery. We enjoy flying here so much because it’s so different from Serengeti—it’s not so much a travel as an opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the landscape, take in the sounds, and relax while keeping an eye out for wildlife.

Your Tarangire Balloon Safari Experience

An exciting Night Drive Transfer 0400 – 0515hrs

This kind of early start is really worth it. Riding in one of our four-wheel drive cars to our launch site in the pitch blackness of the early morning hours is sure to heighten your sense of suspense. Try looking out the windows at one of the nighttime animals of Tarangire under the bright lights of the car.

Safety Briefing and preparing for the flight 0615 – 0645hrs

As dawn breaks and the team inflates the balloon, a shimmering swath of savannah gold and acacia green illuminated by the burners, it floats into the crisp morning air, carrying with it the vital information of your flight safety briefing. You get into the basket and get ready to soar into the morning.

Floating over Tarangire 0645 – 0815hrs

Depending on the wind’s direction, each trip is a unique adventure as noises and sights emerge from the earth below. A part of the journey includes this. On occasion, the basket will delicately touch the grass’s tips before ascending through the air layers, allowing you to observe Tarangire from east to west, bathed in the golden and pink light of the morning sun. Our pilots are experts at capturing the African wind and also fantastic storytellers about the untamed life below. Returning to Tarangire, Mother Earth, will occur about an hour or two after you take to the skies. Oh, and it’s far from over….

Time for Celebration! 0815 – 0830hrs

A gentle embrace from the Winds has been extended to you. You have been bestowed with the warmth of the Sun’s hands… It is customary for the balloonist to raise a glass of champagne to celebrate the successful flight. Your pilot will regale you with tales of ballooning’s past and present, and the crew will be waiting with cold bottles as soon as we touch down. And that’s not all! After your balloon safari, we’ll take you a short drive to the spot where we’ve cooked up a delicious breakfast.

Wild Bush Breakfast 0830 – 0930hrs

Breakfast under the sprawling acacia canopy in the heart of the Tarangire wilds is truly unparalleled. ‘Out of Africa’ style served on linen, bone china, and Sheffield cutlery with fresh tropical fruit, freshly baked bread, and eggs fried in the bush (with a great avocado choice), all enhanced by the surroundings. While reminiscing with other travellers, take in the breathtaking flight you just experienced and relish in the memories.

Tarangire National Park

Because of the calm breezes in Tarangire, our flights here are leisurely and tranquil. Starting in the wildlife-rich Silale swamp and winding your way down to the baobab-studded Tarangire River, you can take in the breathtaking scenery as you float by mountain ranges and hill ranges. As you make your journey through the park, keep an eye out for buffalo herds, the renowned elephants of Tarangire, zebras, eland, waterbuck, and impala. Listen carefully to the symphony of thousands of doves chirping below.
