A Complete 5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Nyiragongo Hike
Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, have a COVID-19 test. After taking the test, you will spend the day on quarantine at hotel. Wait for the results at hotel. If the test is negative, the trip will continue the next day.
Note: The arrival time must be very early in the morning in order to allow for time to do the COVID test.
Day 2: Transfer to Congo
Leave Kigali early morning for transportation to Congo. Check in with the Virunga tourism office. You will later on be transported to Gikeri Ranger post.
Day 3: Mountain Gorilla trekking at Virunga National Park
After an early breakfast, you will head down to meet the Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. The gorilla trek experience will take you about 1 to 2.5 hours of hiking each way depending on the location of the gorillas. After spending the allocated 1 hour with the gorillas, you will then return to the camp where you will have lunch. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 4: Hike Nyiragongo Volcano
After breakfast, you will be transported to the Kibati Ranger post, the starting point for the Nyiragongo Volcano trek. On arrival, you will receive briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano will take about four to six hours.
Day 5: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano and transfer to Rwanda
Leave the crater rim early morning and have the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. On arrival at the ranger post, you will be transported back to the border at Goma where your guide will transfer you to the Kigali International Airport for a departure flight.
