Zambia vs Zimbabwe: Zambia Victoria Falls & Zimbabwe Safari
This 10-day luxury community and wildlife safari takes you deep into Africa, where you will spend your days learning about what is being done to empower the people of the continent, experiencing African culture, and seeing big game.
You will start your safari by lodging in a fancy eco-friendly resort in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, which is upstream from Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world. Thorntree River Lodge is one of Zambia’s newest lodges, and it’s where you’ll learn about the community development work that goes on behind the scenes to make vacation meaningful.
Then head to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest reserve, where there are a lot of elephants and buffalo. Somalisa Camp is in a private concession, so you may go on walking safaris, night drives, and see animals from secret hides. You will also visit local villages and be inspired by the people’ creativity and business ideas.
The last stop on your community and wildlife trip will be Lake Kariba, where you’ll stay at the magnificent Bumi Hills Safari Lodge. The resort is hidden away in the hills that surround the lake. You can spend your last few days relaxing by Bumi’s famous infinity-edge swimming pool or watching the sun set on a boat excursion.
Why Is This a Trip with a Purpose?
African Bush Camps is one of just a few businesses who set up its Foundation on the same day they opened for business. All of the money from every bed night goes to these causes. They also give a lot more behind the scenes, in addition to what they do for communities, animals, and conservation. A great chance to meet those who are benefiting from tourism in person.
Go to Maunga Village, where the clinic and school are. A full day in Hwange National Park is set aside for seeing community projects, including as elementary schools and sewing clubs operated by women who turn old things into beautiful things.
A Complete 10 Day Zambia Victoria Falls & Zimbabwe Safari
Day 1-4: Arrive in Victoria Falls (Zambia) | 3 Nights
Victoria Falls is a stunning site along Zambia’s southern border. It’s where your community and wildlife tour begins. You will stay for three nights at Thorntree River Lodge, which is in Zambia’s Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, close to the Falls. The lodge was designed with the environment in mind, so it doesn’t leave a heavy footprint on the beautiful natural area around it.
You will visit Maunga Village, an amazing community upliftment project, while you are at Thorntree River Lodge. Many rural populations in Zambia have trouble getting to good, affordable health care facilities and services. Maunga Clinic and Maunga Primary School are both making real changes that make it worth spending money on travel. You will not only learn about the local culture, but you will also help make good educational chances for local school kids.
When you’re not seeing one of the world’s most famous sights, you’ll be spending your days getting to know the locals, tracking rhinos on bush walks, taking sunset boat rides, and going to the vibrant Maramba and Markuni markets. At Thorntree River Lodge, you may see wildlife and meet local communities while also experiencing real Africa.
Day 4-7: Southern Hwange National Park | 3 Nights
You will fly to Somalisa Camp after breakfast and stay there for the following three nights. Hwange National Park is the biggest natural reserve in Zimbabwe. It located in the west of the country and is known for having a lot of different kinds of animals. It also has one of the largest groups of elephants in the world. You may look forward to guided treks in the jungle, game drives, and even safaris on horseback, all of which are great for taking pictures.
This small bush lodge is where you can see the real Africa and where nature and luxurious accommodations interact together. An elephant pool is located at the edge of the main area’s large deck. Families of elephants often visit this pool, which is one of the best things about this magnificent safari lodge.
When you’re not on safari in this gorgeous area, you’ll be working on community projects, such sewing groups run by local women and local elementary schools. You’ll take things that would normally be thrown out and turn them into something lovely. You will have a whole day to interact with the local community and learn about all the work that is going on behind the scenes to help and empower the people of Africa.
Day 7-10: Lake Kariba | 3 Nights
After breakfast, you’ll be flown to Lake Kariba, the biggest man-made lake in the world. It runs along the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia for more than 200 kilometres (124 miles), making a beautiful natural border between the two countries. There are crocs, hippos, fish, and water birds in the lake, and elephants and buffalo live on the shore.
You will spend the following three nights at Bumi Hills Safari Lodge, a magnificent place on a series of distant hills that gives you a high perspective of Lake Kariba. The resort has an infinity pool that is the main attraction. You can also drink wine on dining decks at different levels. You will spend your days going on morning, afternoon, and evening game drives, walking safaris, boating, fishing, visiting villages, and taking sunset cruises.
