South Coast Mauritius Vacations All-inclusive Resorts

Discover South Coast Mauritius Vacations All-inclusive Resorts. The South Coast of Mauritius is renowned for its untamed, rugged allure, characterised by steep cliffs, tumultuous seas, and genuine fishing communities. It is a less developed and more tranquil region relative to other areas of the island, providing an opportunity to encounter pristine environment and experience the island’s natural marvels.

Visit the South Coast if you appreciate untamed beaches! The formidable waves collide with towering cliffs, creating stunning visuals and auditory experiences, however swimming is inadvisable.

South Coast Mauritius

The South Coast of Mauritius is perfect for those who like breathtaking maritime vistas. Due to breaches in the coral reef around this shoreline, formidable waves can surge directly to the shore. They collide with the rocks and batter the sand, producing thrilling visuals and sounds.

Predictably, the South Coast is deemed unsafe for swimming, particularly due to the potential for cliff collapses and the unusually strong currents. Nonetheless, the beaches in this region possess their own allure. There are eight beaches in total, and our three recommendations are Gris Gris, Bel Ombre, and St Félix.

Gris Gris

Gris Gris is situated a few kilometres southeast of Souillac, a settlement on the southernmost point of Mauritius. The name signifies ‘black magic’ and is inspired by the dramatic waves crashing against the region’s steep cliffs. There exists a rock referred to as ‘Roche qui Pleur’, or the rock that cries; here, the incessant crashing and splashing produce sounds reminiscent of sobbing, if one listens attentively for a while. While swimming is not feasible at Gris Gris, the vistas are stunning, and a nearby garden offers a tranquil location for a picnic.

Bel Ombre

Another cherished South Coast beach is located between Souillac and the hamlet of Bel Ombre. This beach features powerful waves that surge towards the coast. Swimming is prohibited; however, enthusiastic walkers will like meandering across the shallows to the adjacent Ilôt Sancho and investigating the island. This exercise is not especially time-consuming, as the island is quite tiny, nevertheless the vistas of the South Coast are truly remarkable!

St Felix

St Félix is situated between Souillac and Bel Ombre. Renowned as the South Coast’s most exquisite beach, this locale comprises two beaches, with the eastern beach offering superior vistas and a more private ambiance. The sands are brilliantly white and exceptionally smooth underfoot, while the sea glistens in various colours of blue and turquoise. Abundant tropical vegetation offers ample cover, while several corals scattered along the shore enhance visual appeal. Swimming is also forbidden here; nevertheless, one may partake in a speedboat excursion and experience the excitement of deep-sea fishing. Undoubtedly, St Félix is an essential destination for anyone situated on the magnificent South Coast.
