Namibia’s breathtaking desert scenery provides a superb setting for a new kind of safari. Animal numbers are less in Namibia yet sightings in this limited setting are likely to be very rewarding. Etosha National Park is home to great species and at the center of it all is Etosha Pan, the largest salt pan in Africa and a seasonal animal magnet not to be missed.

Namibia Wildlife
The vast, arid geography of Namibia doesn’t lend itself to great quantities of wildlife but you’ll surely have no trouble seeing the ones that do. Among these are lots of wildebeest, zebra, lion and elephant, with considerable concentrations in Etosha. The country is particularly suitable for observing cheetah, which are plentiful. The stealthy black rhino and brown hyena are limited to coastal regions.
Things To Do in Namibia
Game drives, guided and self-directed, are a key part of Namibia’s safari experience, including wildlife viewing and birding; self-drive safaris are not permitted in some private reserves. Other features include night drives, hiking (in the Fish River Canyon), walking safaris, quad biking, horseback riding, fishing, surfing, mountain biking and hot air ballooning. You may also go exploring with the San people in Tsumkwe, hunt out millennia-old rock art in Damaraland and enjoy exquisite food and architecture in laid-back Windhoek.
Weather & Climate
Namibia is a land of subtropical desert climate. The winter, Dry Season (May to October) has very little rain and the daytime temperatures are normally below 28°C/82°F. The rain comes a few months into summer, which is called the Wet season (November to April). Humidity also comes. Desert locations can be extremely hot with daytime temperatures reaching over 40°C/104°F.
Best Time To Visit
The Dry season (May to October) is a really nice time to come, with beautiful days that are completely cloudless. But from June to August it can turn very cold during night and early morning. The Dry season is also the best time to see wildlife as the animals will cluster around water sources and will be easy to see.
