Where to Go on an African Safari – Masai Mara vs Serengeti

By Road From Masai Mara To Serengeti

Traveling by road between Masai Mara and the Serengeti is available by either the border at Namanga, which is located to the east of the Serengeti, or through Isebania, which is located to the west of the Serengeti.

Crossing At Isebania

At a little border crossing called Isebania, you can cross the border between Kenya and Tanzania just west of the Masai Mara and Serengeti. The road is exceedingly uneven and difficult on both sides of the border, which is the main issue with the route through Isebania. Additionally, it can take more than half a day to get from Mara to Isebania and then to a camp in the Serengeti. This does not account for any potential time lost at the border, which could range from an hour to several hours, depending on the volume of traffic there. On this trip, an overnight stay is frequently necessary.

Crossing At Namanga

For individuals who want to avoid paying for flights but still want to go on safari in both countries, the Namanga route is a preferable choice. Even though the trip through this path is a little more comfortable, the problem with it is that it is also rather far from both of the areas. The requirement to obtain a vehicle permit when crossing the border is yet another issue with road travel. You might pay dearly for this! If you’re not driving, you can walk across the border and then make arrangements for another travel agency to pick you up on the other side.

Overall, the road trip isn’t worth the bother because you wind up wasting a lot of time on it. Depending on how many people you’re traveling with and how many individuals the expense needs to be split among, it might even be more expensive than flying.
