Erebero Hills | A Luxury Safari Lodge in Uganda’s Bwindi

With a focus on making a meaningful and empowering positive effect, Erebero Hills is poised to deliver the same high-quality service and meticulous attention to detail that Asilia is known for. Nestled into the hillside, eight luxurious apartments offer breathtaking views of the forest and the valley below. Each suite has its own private deck, perfect for taking in the scenery. A king-sized bed and indoor/outdoor seating options complement the natural light and airy, glass-fronted rooms, which make the most of the breathtaking views. Each suite features a boot-room as an elegant entryway, and the master bathroom is where the design really shines with a free-standing tub, an indoor/outdoor shower and stunning views of the forest from every angle. Additional places to relax include the main lounge and the pool, and guests can also have spa treatments in the comfort of their own rooms if they’re feeling particularly drained.

Erebero Hills | Asilia Africa

Positioned on the northern edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Erebero Hills provides a rare combination of seclusion and easy access to a popular gorilla trekking site.

Our goal is to establish a forest buffer zone on the 45 acres that surround the resort through a massive restoration effort. This project is planned to be completed over a lengthy period of time. It will provide Batwa people, who are currently not allowed in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, with an accessible forest. Additionally, it will provide local communities with sustainable livelihood options, both during the planting phase and for years to come.

Best Time to Visit Erebero Hills

Visit Erebero Hills year-round!

July – October
High: 23°C / 73°F
Low: 11°C / 57°F
Rainfall: 100mm / 4in

The months of September and October bring more rain to Bwindi, which is otherwise a dry period. During this season, gorilla trekking is most enjoyable because to the relative dryness of the weather. However, as the rain intensifies, visitors may still expect to see plenty of gorillas as they take cover in the thick vegetation. Forest elephants, monkeys, and a plethora of bird species are just a few of the forest’s busy inhabitants, and as the rainfall increases, the forest is home to an increasing number of migrant bird species.

November – February
High: 23°C / 73°F
Low: 11°C / 52°F
Rainfall: 125mm / 5in

Gorilla trekking is much easier, photography is much better, bird watching is incredible, and there is very little rain when you visit Erebero Hills in the dry season, but you won’t have to deal with the hordes of tourists that visit around mid-year. Even though it’s always raining, the ground is still stable.

March – June
High: 23°C / 73°F
Low: 11°C / 52°F
Rainfall: 150mm / 6in

At Erebero Hills, it rains more from March to May. Even if it’s more muddy and treacherous, gorilla trekking is still a possibility. The woodland bursts forth, transforming into a verdant, photogenic setting that evokes a magical, otherworldly realm. Gorilla permits might be easier to come by and experiences could become more intimate because there are less other tourists to compete with now. Many exciting sightings await birdwatchers as migratory bird species swarm the forest. As the dry season starts in June, the rainfall starts to decrease and the ground starts to firm up again.

  • 3. What wildlife can I see at Erebero Hills?

Among the more than 100 species of mammals, 10 of which are primates, there are over 350 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. • 4. What happens on a gorilla trek?
You and your fellow travellers will be picking up your tour group and their leader at the park headquarters, so get an early start. In most cases, a briefing is followed by a brief drive to the starting place. The ascent, which frequently involves navigating dense forest and steep inclines, can take several hours or more. After you locate the gorilla family, you’ll get to spend an hour with them before you start the long trek back.
  • 5. What should I wear for gorilla trekking?
Hiking boots, ideally waterproof and featuring ankle support, must be worn in. Wearing thick hiking socks is also recommended. It is advisable to wear gardening gloves or a pair of gloves with built-in protection for handling stinging nettles. You can be comfortable and protected from the vegetation by wearing long, lightweight pants, a sweat-wicking, fast-drying t-shirt and a long-sleeved, lightweight shirt. Keep in mind that there is a 15-kilogram (33-pound) baggage limit on smaller aircraft.
  • 6. What will we eat at Erebero Hills?
The lodge’s in-house chefs follow Asilia’s quality standards while preparing meals, and they use seasonal, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
  • 7. What should I do if I have dietary restrictions?
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements ahead of your arrival; we will happily accommodate.
  • 8. Does the lodge have electricity and running water?
Yes, Erebero Hills operates on solar electricity with a backup generator, and all guest suites have hot running water.
