Climbing Margherita Peak

Climbing Margherita Peak is a challenging, technical, and rewarding mountaineering experience to Africa’s third-highest peak (5,109m) in the Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda, requiring specific gear like crampons and an ice axe, and typically taking 7 to 10 days to complete. Hikers must be accompanied by experienced guides, have a high level of fitness, and will face steep ascents, glacier crossings, and potential crevasses, especially on the final summit push via the Elena Hut.

Margherita Peak on Mt. Stanley, at 5,109 meters, is the highest elevation in Uganda and the third-highest in Africa, following Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. This 10-day expedition comprises 8 days on the mountain, culminating in the ascent of Margherita Peak on day 6. The journey is arduous, although you go gradually over the mountains, allowing ample time for acclimatisation.
