Worst/Best Time for Bird Watching in Uganda
From a birdwatcher’s standpoint, Uganda offers excellent opportunities year-round, mostly due to the presence of resident bird species. The climate is the primary consideration, and Uganda is a predominantly humid nation. During the wet season, roads and woodland trails may be in suboptimal condition, and precipitation could disrupt birdwatching activities.
The optimal period for avian observation is from late May to September, characterised by reduced precipitation and ample food supply. The primary nesting season in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga, significant locations for Albertine Rift endemics, occurs in May and June; nevertheless, from mid-April to mid-May, precipitation may be excessively intense.
February and early March represent the sole period when Toro-Semliki has moderate dryness; however, the northern region, including Murchison Falls National Park, remains brutally hot. December and January are favourable months as the northern regions remain relatively cool while the southern regions see reduced rainfall.
