A Detailed 7-Day Rwanda Uganda Safari | Gorillas, Chimps & Wildlife

Day 1 Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at your Kigali hotel, your driver guide will be waiting to brief you on the excursion. After paying your respects at the Kigali Genocide Museum, you will be driven for approximately 2.5 hours northwest via verdant hills and market villages to reach Volcanoes National Park, famous for mountain gorilla research.

Day 2 Volcanoes National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

You will be driven to the Kinigi Park headquarters for a trekking briefing following an early breakfast. Then, after about an hour of hiking, you’ll get a close look at the mountain gorillas in the rainforest. There is always someone watching over each gorilla group, so their whereabouts are never a mystery. Onwards transportation to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is scheduled for later today.

Day 3 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Following an early morning meal, you will be briefed on the ins and outs of Uganda Gorilla Trekking at the ranger station. Accompanied by a senior ranger, you will go on a trek into the jungle in pursuit of gorillas. You spend an hour or so seeing them up close after you locate them, and then you return to the lodge.

Day 4 Queen Elizabeth National Park

The next stop is Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can observe baboons, hippos, buffalo, lions, and elephants after breakfast. Game excursions in the afternoon offer the chance to see tree-climbing lions, a very unusual sight in Africa. You may also observe buffalo, many kinds of antelopes, and the biggest herds of elephants in Uganda.

Day 5 Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll go on a morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains, a great place to spot jackals, bushbucks, forest pigs, buffalo, elephants, and kob, all of which are good predator hunting grounds. During the middle of the day, you can go on a launch cruise along Kazinga Channel to see wildlife up close. In the evening, you may enjoy even more game viewing opportunities at the lodge.

Day 6 Kyambura Gorge to Lake Mburo National Park

Your chimpanzee tracking adventure begins with an early breakfast followed by a 35-kilometer transfer to Kyambura Gorge. Monkeys, baboons, vervet monkeys, black-and-white colobus, and a plethora of bird species call the gorge home. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the National Park of Lake Mburo.

Day 7 Lake Mburo National Park to Entebbe

At Lake Mburo, you’ll begin your walking safari, a more peaceful approach to seeing animals since there won’t be any engines to disturb the peace. Common animals include zebras, bushbucks, impala, duikers, warthogs, and topi. Once you have had breakfast at the lodge, your tour ends with a transfer to Entebbe, where your guide will either drop you off at your hotel or the airport.
