8-Day In The Republic of the Congo
Located in central Africa, 8-Day in the Republic of the Congo is an enchanting country. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is its larger neighbour to the west, while the smaller Congo-Brazzaville is the more common name for the two countries separated by Africa’s second-largest river.
A Detailed 8-Day In The Republic of the Congo
Day 1: Arrive in Brazzaville
Arrive in the capital city of Brazzaville and transfer to our hotel.
Day 2: Brazzaville city tour
Before lunch, we’ll see a traditional dance and peruse the craft market in the morning.
In the afternoon, we will pay our respects at the Sacred Heart Cathedral and Pierre De Brazza’s Mausoleum. De Brazza was one of the few white colonists whose legacy lives on in Africa.
A distinct Congolese subculture that dates back to the 1940s, we will meet the sapeurs – the “society of elegant persons of the Congo” – afterwards.
Day 3: Lesio Luna
Lesio Luna, a national reserve devoted to the preservation of gorillas, is our destination for today’s drive north.
As soon as we arrive, we’ll hop on a boat and head to three separate islands in search of gorillas.
We will then head back to Brazzaville, the capital of the country.
Day 4: Pointe Noire
Head south to Pointe Noire, the Republic of Congo’s commercial hub.
Partial afternoon release
Day 5: Conkouati National Park
Conkouati-Douli, a seaside national park recognised by UNESCO, is our destination today.
Spend the afternoon lounging around camp or at the beach if you choose.
Day 6: Mangroves and chimpanzees
This morning, after continuing along the coast by car, we will transfer to boats to explore the mangroves.
Take a break for lunch before continuing downstream to the island sanctuary for chimpanzees.
After that, we’ll spend the next two nights at our campsite.
Day 7: Return to Pointe Noire
Go back to Pointe Noire after breakfast; there’s a craft market there we may peruse.
You are free to spend the remainder of the afternoon at the beach if you choose.
Day 7: Pointe Noire tour
Stop by Pointe Noire’s African Circle Museum, which honours the rich cultural history of the Congo.
The Loango Regional Museum is a must-visit for everyone interested in the kingdom of Loango.
Explore the breathtaking Diosso Gorge, often called the “Grand Canyon of Congo,” on foot.
Day 9: Tour Ends / Angola extension
This is the last day of the tour. If you are not participating in our Angola tour, which leaves early to travel to Cabinda, then you will need to make your own way to the airport.
