A Detailed 8-Day 7-Nights Ultimate Botswana Honeymoon Itinerary

Day 1 – Jack’s Camp

Upon your arrival in Maun, Botswana, a representative will be there to assist you with boarding your 30-minute light charter aircraft to the Makgadikgadi. Your guide will be there to greet you when you arrive and will drive you to camp, which should take approximately fifteen minutes (give or take depending on wildlife sightings).

You are cordially invited to Botswana. After you and your colleagues have gotten to know each other and the camp, you’ll have some time to settle into your desert abode. Then, you and your guide will have some light refreshments as you get to know the area and the activities that are available. After a lengthy journey, you can choose to relax in camp or embark on your first adventure.

Your guide will go over the incredible array of activities offered by Jack’s Camps with you and help you organise your stay so that you get the most out of it. Here you may do quad biking, horseback riding, san bushman hikes, visiting meerkats, game drives, and more. (Please be aware that quad biking is a seasonal activity).

Embark on your inaugural game drive as you seek to orient yourself in this lunar-like environment. In spite of appearances, these pans are not completely devoid of life; on the horizon, mirages appear, and you can see the footprints of the animals that traverse them. It is not uncommon to witness lions, zebras, elephants, and giraffes in this area. Keep an eye out for any movement in the dust that may be seen over the horizon.

Pausing at a picturesque location to raise a glass to the setting sun. With the dust blending colours in such a spectacular way across the flat horizons, you will want to bring your camera because these sunsets are just breathtaking.

Bringing a torch back to camp in the hopes of spotting any desert animals that are active at night. You will spend your first night in the desert over a crackling campfire while you eat supper. Your plans for the following day will be discussed after supper.

Day 2 and 3 – Jack’s Camp

A gentle breakfast and a wake-up call will start your day before you hit the road for your first adventure. After a satisfying lunch in the middle of the morning, you’ll have some downtime at camp before heading off on your afternoon adventure.

Here, you can expect a daily safari that is completely unique, with an assortment of activities that you will have organised the day before with your guide.

Game drives take you well into the Makgadikgadi, where you can get up close and personal with dangerous animals like the cheetah and the world-famous black maned lion. Among the many animals that call this place home are brown hyenas, oryx, springbok, giraffe, zebra, and countless more.

The habituated meerkat colony, home to the first “cool cats” in the Kalahari, is a perennial favourite. Meerkats are constantly alert for danger, are very inquisitive, and gregarious animals. Since they have already determined that you are harmless, they will probably not waste any time taking advantage of your height to keep an eye out for danger.

You can go quad biking from May to October, while it’s dry. Protecting yourself from the dust as you soar across the lunar-like pans—so vast and empty you can almost see the curve of the earth—you wrap yourself like a desert explorer and wear a sarong around your head and lips.

You may learn more about this remarkable region on guided bush walks. An enormous superlake that formerly covered most of Southern Africa has evaporated, leaving behind these salt flats. The most ancient parts, which are now just desolate salt plains, were the deepest parts of the pans. But the outskirts and some pockets are bustling with activity, and they were once inhabited by many San settlements. You will be given first-hand accounts by your guide.

You can approach animals in a peaceful and discreet way on short horseback safaris. Not as rough as the quad bikes, but still a great ride. The panoramic views of the far fields and animals are very breathtaking from this elevated vantage point.

The treks with the San bushmen are amazing. Experience firsthand how they light a fire in minutes, weave string from an obedient cactus, and locate water in the desert while listening to tales of their traditional survival abilities. You’ll be left in awe and wonder. Discover how they make jewelery, how to trace, and what instruments they use for hunting.

Day 4 – Tuludi Camp

Before saying goodbye to the Kalahari and the team and taking out for the Okavango, you have one more opportunity to relax at Jack’s this morning. The Khwai Reserve can be reached by plane in about an hour. The journey from the desolate desert to the shimmering Okavango oasis is an interesting one. Looking out for larger creatures like elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffalo, and many more is a must if you want to enjoy the breathtaking Okavango from above on this flight.

Upon your arrival, your guide will be there to bring you to camp, which is a 30-minute drive away. New and luxurious, Tuludi camp has a picture-perfect location, looking out over floodplains that flood at different times of the year and a permanent waterhole. With an own balcony and plunge pool, these enormous tented apartments are sleek and classy. The main room is well-planned and features several enticing spaces, such as a pool, bar, lounge, and an elevated library that is four meters high.

Now that you’ve met the crew, you can unwind in your accommodation and get ready for high tea in the late afternoon. You might even take a dip in your private plunge pool.

You and your guide will meet to go over the area’s highlights and available activities, then you’ll have the chance to share your interests and make plans for the next days. The primary pursuits here include guided wilderness hikes and drives in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Assuming water levels are suitable, visitors to this region can enjoy boating and mokoro safaris at any time of year.

You will start exploring the breathtaking riverfront region and the gorgeous open plains that afternoon when you set off for your first excursion. Before heading back for dinner and to start making plans for the next day with your guide, you can relax with a drink while the sun goes down.

Day 5 – Tuludi Camp

Once again, the day begins with an early morning alarm at the crack of dawn. Just as before, the safari will begin in the morning and end in the late afternoon.

Large herds of wildlife call the expansive Khwai Private reserve home. Animals such as giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, sable, impala, and kudu roam these grasslands. And then there are the predators! It is common to observe lions, leopards, and hyenas. Also, wild dogs have been spotted in that area. The wonder of being on safari is that you never know what you’re going to see or do because each day is unique. According to your guide.

There will be downtime between events when you may relax and take in the breathtaking scenery at our wonderful camp. The rooms are large and airy, and the private decks are great for lounging or having a safari on the couch while you watch the animals at the waterhole.

Day 6 – Khwai Skybeds

You should be used to the early morning alarm by now, though it’s not always easy! You go about your morning routine after a light breakfast and come back for brunch sometime in the middle of the day. In order to ensure that you are prepared to transfer to Skybeds for your night under the stars in the Okavango, your guide will go over your departure time the day prior.

The transfer to Skybeds, which starts with a 6-minute helicopter journey and ends with a 35-minute drive into the reserve’s northern area, will take place at a prearranged time. Elephants love to hang out in the nearby mopane forests, so be on the lookout! You can’t shoot a bad picture from this vantage point—a photo hide gives you a front-row seat to the wildlife as they gather around a waterhole to drink. About fifteen minutes after the hide, you keep going.

You will have the opportunity to settle into your treehouse home upon arrival at Skybeds in the late afternoon. Afterwards, assemble on the raised viewing deck above the waterhole to watch the sunset. Enjoy your meal while listening to the natural sounds of the bush from a basic elevated platform.

Get cosy under your duvet-covered bed with your hot water bottle, mosquito net, and starry sky. Underneath the terrace is a private en suite restroom that includes a washbasin, toilet and a shot shower.

The sound of the waterhole being visited by elephants at all hours of the night is a soothing accompaniment to a good night’s sleep.

Day 7 – Tuludi Camp

You might hear the birdsong and feel the gentle glow of dawn before your guide even gets up. Returning to Tuludi Camp via morning game drive, you will have the opportunity to explore the reserve during your drive, which begins after breakfast. Because of its size and diversity, this reserve offers ample opportunity to learn about a wide range of ecosystems.

Once you return to Tuludi Camp for lunch, you’ll have some downtime before your last afternoon activity. Stopping at a picturesque site, you will raise a glass to the waning sun – enjoy the view!

Your guide will inform you of your flight time to Maun the following day over dinner in camp this evening. You can then organise your morning activities based on this information.

Day 8 – End of Safari

You say goodbye to the Okavango and the Tuludi crew today. Your guide will inform you of the exact time you will be departing camp, and the trip to Maun will be scheduled the day prior. No matter what, you can count on the airline to arrive on time to meet your connecting connection. You will have one last morning activity and lunch before saying goodbye to the Okavango, depending on the time of departure (agreed with your guide).

Depending on stops along the way, the flight to Maun will take around 30 minutes. When you arrive, a representative will be there to help you with your next steps in the travel process.
