The sunsets here are stunning, with the sky illuminated in shades of pink, purple, and gold above the towering Le Morne Brabant, while the ocean deepens to violet. The West Coast beaches naturally draw numerous people; yet, one can still discover tranquil spots for relaxation in this exquisite region. The West Coast boasts seven beautiful beaches, with our preferred selections being Flic en Flac, Le Morne Brabant, and Tamarin.
West Coast Mauritius
The West Coast lies between the charming settlements of Albion and Tamarin. The beach’s name is Dutch, translating to English as ‘free and level land.’ This terrain is extensive, offering a delightful hour-long walk from one end to the other. A vibrant coral reef encircles the beach, forming a crystalline blue lagoon ideal for bathing, swimming, and snorkelling. It is highly recommended that visitors consistently wear sandals because of the prevalence of sea urchins; walking on one of these spiny creatures can be quite painful. Aside from that, the West Coast is a remarkably secure beach, showcasing magnificent sunsets. Weekends may appear somewhat hectic, but weekdays are comparatively tranquil and an excellent environment.
Le Morne
Le Morne The beaches of Brabant, located on the renowned southwestern peninsula, are of exceptional beauty. They are located on the western flank of the imposing monolith, in proximity to the region’s extensive resorts and hotels. The public beach is highly picturesque, featuring white sands bordered by swaying palm trees and touched by remarkably clean waters. Due to optimal wind conditions year-round, the beach is exceptional for windsurfing and kitesurfing, regarded as one of the premier global venues for these sports. Swimming is excellent here as well; nevertheless, one must frequently share the area with other surfers. If you are not a surfer, you may appreciate observing the activity while enhancing your tan.
Tamarin
Finally, there is Tamarin, situated on Tamarin Bay, between Black River village and Flic en Flac. This beach, set against the Black River mountain range, undoubtedly possesses a striking appeal. In contrast to other beaches in Mauritius, the sands here are yellowish and comprise little stones, which are perfect for embellishing your sandcastles. The absence of a coral reef surrounding the beach allows large waves to reach the shore unimpeded. Swimming beyond the shallows is ill-advised due to the potential presence of strong currents. Nonetheless, bathing is exceptional, and surfing is remarkable. You may traverse the entirety of the beach, crossing the Tamarin River. Weekdays are ideal for locating a private area for sunbathing and picnicking, whilst weekends are excellent for congregating around campfires amidst a lively beach atmosphere.
