A Detailed 2 Weeks in Rwanda Itinerary, 14 Days Rwanda Safari. The “land of a thousand Hills“—Rwanda—will reveal its stunning natural splendor to you on this journey. While winding your way around the mountainous roads of Rwanda, take in the many landscapes and backdrops. Landscapes in the parks range from mountainous to forested to savannah. The Nyungwe forest is home to chimpanzees, whereas Volcanoes National Park is home to gorillas. As you visit their houses and participate in various activities, you will get the opportunity to interact with the Rwandan people up close.

Detailed Itinerary: 2 Weeks in Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival to Kigali

Step into the land of “a thousand hills”—Rwanda—for an unforgettable adventure across this diminutive yet stunning nation. At the airport, a member of our tour or representative staff will be waiting to take you to your accommodation.

Drive time – 20 minutes

Day 2: Reconciliation Village tour & Kigali City Tour

In the morning, you will begin your day with a tour of a reconciliation hamlet outside of Kigali city. Here, survivors of the genocide share their memories with you, despite living side by side with the perpetrators. Among the sites where numerous innocent people perished in the genocide is the Bugesera church Nyamata, which you will be seeing.

After here, you should go back to Kigali and see the memorial to the genocide there, as well as the Kandt museum and some art and craft stores.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park


Akagera National Park Safari | Rwanda | A Beautiful Story

Your driver/guide will come and get you from your accommodation this morning after breakfast so that you may go to Akagera National Park. The next step is to make your way to your hotel once you reach the park.

After you eat lunch, go on a boat safari around Lake Ihema. So that you can go on a safari exploring the northern section of Akagera the following day, you can have the boat today.

Drive time – 2 hours 30 minutes or Helicopter ( Augusta)– 30 minutes

Day 4: Game drive and Boat Safari

Elephants, hippos, buffalo, and lions all call Akagera National Park in the Savannah home. We set out on a game drive in pursuit of these creatures after a leisurely breakfast; our route will take us north of the park, where the animals tend to congregate. Keep an eye out along the game trails for zebras, giraffes, and impalas.

Since it is close to the lakes, the lake shore trail often includes many animals.

Day 5: Community Tour near Akagera National Park

Pastoralists tend to favor the eastern part of Rwanda due to its greater flatness in comparison to the rest of the nation. The livestock keepers’ home is where you’ll participate in all the fun stuff. Help out with the milking of the cows by getting in there early. The herdsman will show you the ropes when it comes to milking and soothing the cow. Traditional methods of processing milk into goods like ghee and yoghurt are also covered in class.

We hope this provides a window into the farmers’ daily lives.

Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest – the home of chimpanzees

By way of Kigali, we will be leaving Akagera National Park this morning to go Nyungwe Forest National Park. We will have lunch and stop by the national museum in Huye to have a better understanding of Rwandan culture and history. On the other hand, you might partake in the Huye Mountain coffee experience. Proceed to your accommodation for the night after this adventure.

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest


Meeting the Nyungwe Forest Chimps – Rwanda

We set out for chimpanzee tracking in the Nyungwe forest after an early breakfast. Along with 300 different kinds of birds, the forest is teeming with primates, including 13 different kinds of chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys. Before you begin your journey, your tour guide will take you to the briefing area to meet the community guide and get a briefing. Where the chimpanzees spent the night before determines the overall distance of the journey.

Either go back to the lodge after the chimpanzee trip or do the canopy walk right away to get a break. As you savor the natural beauty below, the canopy walk will transport you to a another world.

Day 8: Colobus monkey trekking

Once again, we will be departing for the briefing site in the Nyungwe forest this morning. Following the safety briefing, your community guide will take you on a hike to see the Colobus monkeys. Typically, habituated troops consist of multiple individuals, either working together or splintering off into smaller groups. As you watch the monkeys groom, feed, and play with one another, take pleasure in their antics. You have one hour to spend in their company before you begin your return journey.

Day 9: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

With breakfast in the bag, we’re off to Volcanoes National Park. The region of a thousand hills is a beautiful place to drive and see many diverse landscapes. Depending on your requirements, you will have the chance to have several layovers for image taking and stretching.

Day 10: Gorilla trekking


Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda’s – Volcanoes National Park

Get up close and personal with the mountain gorillas in the lush Virunga rainforest. You will be allocated a ranger and a family of gorillas to accompany you on your trip to the forest, and the process begins with a briefing at the park headquarters in Kinigi. Your ranger guide will take you to the trailhead after the briefing. Depending on where the gorilla troop you’re trekking is located, you might have to drive to the starting point of the trek. A lot of people want to go on a journey into the habitat of these massive animals since it is an amazing, life-changing event. It all depends on where the gorillas nested the night before; the walk could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

Day 11: Golden Monkey Trekking | Gorilla Guardians Village

Your driver/guide will take you to the park headquarters, like they did yesterday, for a briefing before you begin your hike. In order to keep up with the energetic golden monkeys that you’ll be tracking as they forage for food, you’ll need to be on the go. You can only spend an hour with them once you find them; after that, you must begin the journey back.

Stop at the Gorilla guardians’ settlement on your way back from the park. Spend the morning learning about Rwandan culture at the gorilla guardians’ community. Try your hand at knitting, take a day to be a monarch, or master the art of archery.

Day 12: Transfer to Lake Kivu

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Lake Kivu to relax and recover after your exciting adventure.

Take a boat ride around Lake Kivu in the evening, according to your interests.

Day 13: Lake Kivu Experiences


Kayaking Lake Kivu

Enjoy a day of relaxation as you plan your exploration of Rwanda along the banks of picturesque Lake Kivu. You may go kayaking on Lake Kivu, visit the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, relax by the lakeside in the evening with a drink of your choice, go on a boat ride to an island, and more.

Day 14: Transfer to Kigali

Your Rwanda wildlife safari with Kabira Safaris comes to a close today. Before boarding your aircraft out of Kigali International Airport, have breakfast.
