A Detailed Uganda Conservation Itinerary
Day 01: Kampala- Kibale National Park (Fort Portal)
Today, following a satisfying breakfast, we will commence a 4-5 hour journey to Kibale National Park, making numerous stops en route before arriving at Fort Portal town and the Park. We will arrive in the afternoon and check in for our lunch at either Travellers Inn or Mountains of the Moon Hotel. Subsequently, we shall explore the enigmatic caves at ‘Amabere ga nyina mwiru’, ascend the nearby hills, and observe the crater lakes prior to settling down for leisure, dinner, and our overnight accommodation at Kibale Forest Camp or Ndali Lodge.
Day 02: Chimpanzee Tracking and Conservation Experience – Kibale National Park
We will have breakfast at the camp/lodge before embarking on a chimpanzee tracking and conservation experience at the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre in Kibale National Park, where we will also observe a plethora of other wildlife, including baboons, red-tailed Colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, various bird species, butterflies, and more. We will return for lunch, then proceed to a cultural site named Bigodi for a guided nature walk, including birdwatching and wildlife observation, before returning to the resort for relaxation, supper, and our overnight stay.
Day 03: Chimpanzee Habituation and Conservation Experience – Kibale National Park
In the morning, we will arise early and partake in breakfast at the camp/lodge before accompanying researchers for a comprehensive Chimpanzee Habituation Activity in Kibale, where you will observe and track the chimpanzees as they depart from their overnight nests between 6:00 and 6:30 AM until they construct new nests around 7 PM. Subsequently, we shall return to Kibale Forest Camp or Ndali Lodge for leisure, dinner, and our overnight accommodation.
Day 04: Tree Planting at Kibale Community
On this day, we will eat breakfast and subsequently participate in a tree planting initiative at the Kibale Community project, located in close proximity to Kibale National Park. We will dedicate the day to acquiring knowledge about trees and tree planting from local experts and actively participate in the planting of our own trees. We shall return to the lodge/camp in the evening for repose, dinner, and our overnight accommodation.
Day 05: Tree Planting at Kibale Community
In the morning, we will partake in breakfast before returning for tree planting activities with local people near Kibale National Park. We will dedicate the entire day to the villages and partake in lunch together. In the afternoon, we shall return to the lodge/camp for repose, dinner, and our overnight accommodation.
Day 06: Nature Walk and Hot Spring Conservation Experience – Semuliki National Park
On this day, we will rise early and partake in breakfast prior to proceeding to Semuliki National Park for a thermal spring experience and nature stroll. Here, we will observe a diverse array of animals, including baboons, red-tailed Colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, several avian species, butterflies, and numerous others. We will partake in lunch, followed by a cultural walking trail experience, before checking in for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay at Semuliki Safari Lodge.
Day 07: Nature Walk and Game Drive – Semuliki National Park
On this day, we will have breakfast followed by a morning game drive, during which we will observe a plethora of species, including antelopes, impalas, Uganda kobs, and bush duikers, among others. We will reconvene for lunch, followed by a nature walk, before returning to the lodge for leisure, supper, and our overnight accommodation.
Day 08: Tree planting activity with the Rwenzori Communities
On this day, we will have breakfast and subsequently proceed to a tree planting initiative with the Rwenzori village. We shall dedicate the entire day to their company and share lunch together. Subsequently, we will register for leisure, dinner, and our overnight accommodation at Rwenzori Community Lodge.
Day 09: Tree planting activity with the Rwenzori Communities
On this day, we will have our breakfast then return for tree planting activities with the Rwenzori community. We will spend the whole day with them and even have our lunch together. We will then check in for relaxation, dinner and our overnight stay at Rwenzori community lodge.
Day 10: Rwenzori Community – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Following our morning meal, we will commence an exhilarating journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, located near Mt. Rwenzori, with multiple pauses en route for wildlife and scenic observations, arriving at the park in the afternoon. We will have lunch and then have a two-hour exhilarating launch excursion along the Kazinga Channel, where we will observe several hippos, buffaloes, and elephants along the beach, as well as identify over sixty bird species during the journey. We shall return to the lodge for leisure, dinner, and an overnight stay at Jacana Lodge, Mweya Safari Lodge, or Ihamba Safari Lodge.
Day 11: Wildlife Conservation Tour – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Following our morning repast, we shall commence our day with a morning wildlife drive, during which we are likely to observe early risers, predators, bushbucks, hyenas, elephants, bush pigs, lions, buffaloes, jackals, and climbing lions. Following the trip, we shall return to the lodge for lunch and leisure. In the afternoon, we will commence an exhilarating drive through the Kigezi highlands and terraced hills of the Bakiga and Bafumbira communities en route to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Subsequently, we will check in for leisure, dine and spend the night at Bwindi Safari Lodge or Buhoma Safari Lodge.
Day 12: Mountain Gorilla Tracking & Conservation Experience – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Following an early morning repast and briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides, we shall embark on our Mountain gorilla tracking expedition within the forest reserve. The activity commences at 8:00 AM, and we will be accompanied by additional participants based on the distribution of Gorilla families (only 8 individuals are permitted to see each Gorilla family daily). We must bring packed lunches, drinking water, rain jackets, and walking boots. Walking sticks will be supplied if you are uncertain about your fitness level. We will employ a porter to assist in transporting the luggage during the trek, as the duration required to locate the gorillas is uncertain due to their unrestricted movement inside the jungle. Our interaction with the gorillas will endure for approximately one hour and will be a gratifying and remarkable experience. Following gorilla trekking, we will return for leisure, dinner, and an overnight accommodation at Bwindi Safari Lodge or Buhoma Safari Lodge.
Day 13: Cultural Experience and Canoe Trip with Communities
Following a delectable breakfast, we will embark on a community walk to see the Batwa pygmies, who will provide musical and dance entertainment, showcasing their culture, local banana beer production, and local fortune tellers. We will return for lunch and thereafter join the local population at Lake Bunyonyi for a canoe excursion, during which we will observe exquisite aquatic fauna and partake in fish before returning to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 14: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Entebbe International Airport/Entebbe
On this day, we will leisurely awaken for breakfast before embarking on a picturesque road drive to Kampala and Entebbe International Airport, with a stop at Igongo Cultural Centre for lunch, panoramic views, and equator observation. We will arrive at Entebbe International Airport in the evening to coincide with your flight home.
