Getting to Akagera National Park From Kigali (& Vice Versa)

Getting to Akagera National Park From Kigali. How to Get to Akagera National Park – by Car & Flights: Map. The Akagera National Park is conveniently located close to the country’s primary entry point, the Kigali International Airport (110 km). Beginning your trip to Akagera National Park at Kigali International Airport, you’ll want to equip your vehicle with four-wheel drive because the gravel roads leading to and within the park are not simple to navigate.

If you are traveling by car from the airport, turn left about 100 meters after leaving the terminal and head towards Rwamagana. Rwamagana is the first town you’ll pass through on your way to Kayonza, where you’ll encounter a roundabout. After the roundabout, keep going straight until you reach a gas station on your left; take that and keep going straight for at least 15 kilometers till you reach a marram road. After 15 kilometers, you’ll reach a crossroads where a sign for Akagera National Park may be found on the left. You can ignore the signpost and reach the national park in just 13 kilometers by continuing on your route.

The trip to Akagera National Park from Kigali International Airport will take about two hours and a half, and though the road there may be tough, it will be well worth it.
